Cute Overload

Everybody needs a bit of cuteness now and again. This is the place to get your fill! I can't remember who introduced me to it, but it is chock full o' cute. A good site to browse when you are down in the dumps! The pups section is my favorite. That's where this little guy resides.

A robot that will teach you about vinegar...and maybe pickle you in it!
Presenting the Tamanoi Vinegar Robot...supposedly it only talks about vinegar, (while plotting our doom!),.,.;
Here is a video, and believe it or not it looks friendly (for now!)

'Living plugs' smooth ant journey
This is from BBC news: "A scientific study of the teamwork of army ants has discovered how they are prepared to let their fellow ants walk all over them to get the job done."
Now, I'm not the biggest ant fan in the world, but you have to admire their teamwork!

Haeundae-gu, Busan, South Korea
An interesting website about Busan (Pusan).... I think maybe a robot translated the text because it is, well, not exactly what you might expect....an example: "It ripples, as will be good the orthocenter is shallow and neither the wave which is burnt counts and not to be as the swimming beach Ansong it fixes it has a condition." I've never met a Korean who speaks or writes like that in English, so what do you think?

Humanity in miniature
I've had this link on my computer for some time but just came across it again. No idea how I found out about it anymore. (click on the image and select your language when the link opens...then click play at the bottom once it has loaded)
Definitely an interesting thing to watch...if a little troubling...
I like the "appreciate what you have" quote.

Yeah, there is a stadium full of people to watch a game demo! I'd have been there too, if I was nearby.

Jimmy Carter is Angry
(click the picture for the link)
I was used to seeing him look pleasant.... but if something pisses Jimmy Carter off you know it's gotta be bad.
I think maybe it has something to do with this....

The Assault on Reason
Dear Al Gore,
I used to think you were a robot. I'm sorry. You are actually a pretty with-it dude. Robots are still cool though.

Stephen Colbert "Singing in Korean"
It gets good about half-way into it. I love how he speaks in Korean as though it were Chinese. Good try, Mr. Colbert, but Korean doesn't sound like Chinese! His singing is a bit more on track....
And even I can say 비빔밥 better than he can! Gotta go overseas and see the place, Stephen Colbert! Still a great commentator!
Funny stuff though!

The Monster Engine

This stuff is neat. Basically, he takes kids' drawings and reworks them to...well, I guess a more finished product (I don't know how to put it).

There is something wrong with me

I should be thinking about serious things but instead I'm looking at free stuff on craigslist. And why do I want a free swingset?! Actually, if I had a big backyard I would take 1000 of these....really I would, it would be surreal and sublime at the same time. Oh, and in case you happen to want the link and are in the area http://chicago.craigslist.org/wcl/zip/320519857.html

Biocoils
I was very impressed with these biocoil thing-a-ma-jigs; they are basically coils of tubing filled with algae. Why are they so cool? Cause they can generate oxygen while absorbing carbon dioxide among other useful things. Not a big deal? It's enough to let a person live underwater with no other means of life support....try that with your rose bush and see how things work out.
Anyway, here are some links: To the original biocoil project (made by high school students).
To the guy who decided to live underwater with one!

At the Cellular Level

No, not the wireless service! I remember seeing these animations a little while back and just happened across them again while looking through my bookmarks. The company that makes them, xvivo, makes such cool stuff that I find myself entranced while listening to phrases like: "secreted chemokines bound to something something proteogylcan are presented to lupicite transmembrane receptors" The musical version is interesting as well...
The full version can be seen here.

Holy Crap
Holy Crap! It is 2007!
Yeah, I know -it happened awhile back....but still, 2007. This won't mean anything unless you already know.
You do know what happens in 2013, right?
This is one possibilty....really almost no one would believe it until it happens

A bloated Engadget?
First off, I want to say that I really like Engadget. I look at their site almost every single day, but it seems like it has become bloated with ads and takes a good minute to load completely at times. Why is this? Does it maximize profits? Or is there actually useful information in all those extra little things that link to other sites (and take up so much time!)?
This isn't a burn on a great site....just wondering if anyone else has the same problem. And no, I do not use a 56k modem.....downloading at about 8 Mbps even though my upload rate still is a bit on the slow side.
